- Baby wipes are really good at cleaning a leather suite, and they keep the leather nice and soft.
This was recommended to my mum from a leather suite shop.
- Have you tried with saddle soap, other than that I think the best think to do is take it to the dry cleaner´s and ask their advise, PS, Sorry, should have put my reading glasses on before answering your Q, silly me. Think it would be a bit difficult carry your suite into the dry cleaners. Still think the Saddle soap will help. I have used baby wipes for removing marks. But pop into any local furniture shop and ask for advise. Once again sorry for not reading your Q properly
- baby wipes are very good for getting marks off, but I use furniture polish on mine every week and it looks fab.
- i use this leather cleaning cream from lidl and clean it once a week its really good.
- a lot of carpet and upholstery cleaning companies are getting into leather furniture cleaning. Call around and see what a professional can do.
- try some baby oil,and an net curtain, or baby wipes both work a treat, honest.
- My last suite was cream leather and as an everyday cleaner I used Baby Wipes. The store recommended Simple Soap Bars, which I used with a facecloth when it was really bad. Unfortunately, you can't stop it getting dirty unless you don't use it. We found that dye from Jeans used to transfer onto it and just would not come out. You also find that the stitching stays that horrible grey colour even when the leather is clean. You could try using throws on the suite for everyday use and then just remove them when someone visits. Not ideal I know but the best solution I ever came up with. We sold that one and bought a dark brown one. Have never had to clean any marks off of it but still do it every so often with the baby wipes.
- I always use baby wipes, but remember to clean it regularly or the grime will build up.
- when i my 1st leather suite i also bought the leather cleaning kit which cost over £100! although it was good its not sumthing i would puchase again as its far 2 expensive! The best thing i have found to use are baby wipes, they work a treat!
- I was told never to use any product that had soap in it. So use what you would wash your woolens in. For a cream, a leather car cleaning kit would be probably good and cheaper than products advertised for cleaning a suite.
- You need to use a good quality water based foam leather cleaner.
DO NOT use anything containing oils, waxes or silicones. (Most 'conditioners' contain waxes or oils) and furniture polish contains silicones
BABY WIPES are the worst thing you can use as they will destroy the finish on your leather. They are very strong alkiline cleaners to neutralise urine (acid) on babys skin so they are not the right thing to use on leather.
Saddle soap is too harsh to use on todays furniture.
A lot of leather wipes contain chemicals which will also destroy the finish or leave residues on the leather which will damage it. They are not cheap in the long run as you would need a lot to clean a whole leather sofa. A bottle of foam cleaner should do your furniture 1-2 times.
You should also follow this with a good water based leather protector which will act like a 'scotchgard' and inhibit dirt and stains from being absorbed and make cleaning easier the next time.
Dry leather needs rehydrating with water and oils and waxes should not be used as the natural oils do not dry out of leather. Wiping over with a damp cloth regularly will help to do this.
It is important to maintain a regular cleaning regime cleaning dirt off the surface regularly and inhibiting the absorption of body oils into the leather with a protector is the best way of doing this.
The alternative is a brand new product on the market called Lazy Leather. This is the latest technology in cleaning and combines an effective cleaner with a protector. It is quick and easy to use and should be used as a maintenance product once your suite has been cleaned or from new if you have just bought it.
